I have nominated the scouting and guiding movement, represented by World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and World Organization of the Scout Movement - WOSM for the Nobel Peace Prize. The scouting and guiding movement is built on empowering young people to be active citizens in their local communities and in the world. WAGGGS and WOSM bring together millions of boys and girls from across the globe to form international friendship. It`s a movement for young people from different cultures, religions and backgrounds. It`s a movement that promote leadership development in young people so they affect change in their communities and solve the challenges of tomorrow. At a time when the world is facing tremendous challenges like climate change, wars or a pandemic, we need a counterpoint to egoism and nationalism. The youth deserve an opportunity to contribute to society, locally and internationally. Peacebuilding is at the heart of Guiding and Scouting and is as vital and relevant today as for the last 100 years. It`s time to recognize the contribution of the scouting and guiding movement and young people around the world to building peace. I owe a great deal to the Scouting and Guiding Movement. From a very young age on, I have lived by Baden Powell’s parting credo to the Scouting and Guiding Movement: “Try to leave this world a little better than you found it”. I am sure this is an experience shared by many other Scouts and Guides.
