European efforts to reduce the risk of deforestation

Actions to reduce the risk of deforestation related to products placed on the European market is an important part of the European Green Deal. The European Commission launches a proposal to address deforestation linked to commodities put on the European market on 17 November 2021. In this webinar the Commission will present their proposal and we will look at European efforts to reduce the risk of deforestation. The Norwegian government supports global efforts to reduce destruction of tropical forests and Norway’s international Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI), funded in 2008, leads these efforts from the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment. NICFI will share their experience of working with partner countries to enhance activities to prevent deforestation over the last ten years, as well as working with actors through the supply chains to eliminate deforestation in commodity production.
